Why I support Aloud – Florian Vogelmaier

News

Calon members are the beating heart of The Aloud Charity. We simply would not be able to deliver Only Boys Aloud, Only Girls Aloud, and Only Kids Aloud without your generous donations.

In the fourth article in our giving series Calon Member Florian Vogelmaier tells us why he supports The Aloud Charity:

What motivated you to support The Aloud Charity via our Calon scheme?

“When Tim took the initiative and founded Only Boys Aloud he created something whose value cannot be praised highly enough. He created a space where every boy can be themselves, gain confidence in singing, learn to listen to each other, and find community and friends – perhaps friends for life. A space without bullying, without discrimination, but with tolerance and acceptance – something that I would have wished for as a gay boy (and I assume that some of the boys long for that kind of acceptance).

That, together with my love for music – I learned to play the piano when I was a kid, and the drums and euphonium some years later – convinced me that I wanted to support The Aloud Charity.

In a newsletter, one mother told how her son “got that sparkle in his eyes when the new sheet music arrived”, that’s when I knew that every single penny is well invested.

Besides, I love the term “Calon Member”, as my heart is where my everlasting love for music sits.”

What has been your highlight of The Aloud Charity’s work?

“My highlight was to be able to sing in the virtual choir “Everyone Aloud” together with all those lovely people and Bryn Terfel – I really enjoyed that very much and look forward to the next possibility to take part.”

What would you say to someone considering supporting a small charity like The Aloud Charity?

“When Tim founded Only Boys Aloud and The Aloud Charity, and presented that initiative to the jury of “Britain’s Got Talent”, he said that he wished it to exist “in a hundred years time”.

If you want to support a charity, that offers a real perspective to young people everywhere in Wales, to support their work for many generations to come, then listen to your heart and go for it.”
