Training weekend for freelance community a success

The Aloud Charity is committed to supporting the freelance community in Wales who underpin our ambitious programme of work with young people across Wales. Last year alone we supported regular work for 26 Choir Leaders from across Wales – we couldn’t deliver our incredible impact without them!

The Aloud Charity hosts an annual training weekend for our freelancers. This ensures that we can deliver the highest quality experiences for young people.

Our 2024 training weekend took place at Moreton Hall in Mid-Wales.

As part of the day we welcomed Donna Sharland from Autside Education and Training who delivered an engaging session on Autism Awareness and Suzzie Vango who worked with the team on a range of new creative warm up games and activities to incorporate into rehearsals.

We spoke with West Wales Choir Leader Gwen about how she found the day.

Q&A with Gwen

Tell us about your experience of the Training weekend?

It was a wonderful opportunity to catch-up with choir leaders, accompanists, and other members of the Aloud staff. It’s important to have a sense of what other choirs are doing in the North and South and to share ideas.

What did you enjoy most about the weekend?

I really enjoyed the workshop with Suzzie Vango, where she shared so many ideas for warm-ups and musical activities to do in rehearsals. She was engaging and fun! Donna’s presentation on Autism was also brilliant!

What was a key take-away that you’ll be using in rehearsals?

The key take-away for me was numerous ideas on activities to do in rehearsal that were shared between the choir leaders and Suzzie.

We’re always looking for new Choir Leaders to join our team. We deliver regular choirs in North, West, and South Wales. Contact us if you’d like to discuss how you could get involved.

Help Save The Aloud Charity

Only Boys Aloud, which has supported more than 6,500 boys since they launched in 2010, needs to raise £150,000 to save both the Aloud Charity and its famous Only Boys Aloud choir.
