In February 2023, The Aloud Charity welcomed Beth Jenkins as our new Only Boys Aloud Project Manager in West Wales. In this Q&A, Beth tells us about how she has been finding the role so far and what we can look forward to in the year ahead:
How have your first 2 months in post been and what have you been up to so far?
Over the last 2 months I’ve been familiarising myself with the team and the choir leaders in the West, understanding where everyone fits in to the mission and getting to grips with the logistics of managing 3 choirs across West Wales. Getting out and attending a few weekly rehearsals and arranging a brunch meet up with the choir leaders have been the highlights so far.
What are you looking forward to during the year ahead?
I’m particularly looking forward to sourcing performance opportunities for the boys across West Wales and connecting with local organisations to help spread the word. I’m also on a mission to see what the boys would like to do in the year ahead – ultimately, I want to create a space for the boys to share what they enjoy, where they could get involved further and what sort of performances they would like.
What would you say to young people who have heard about Only Boys Aloud but aren’t sure if it’s for them?
Come along and try! We are going to be arranging a few open rehearsals throughout the year for anyone who may be interested to come along and meet other members and experience a rehearsal. There are no auditions or fees to join OBA so you can just pop along, see how you feel and go from there.
What other projects are you working on outside of Aloud?
Alongside working part-time for Aloud I run my own Operational support business, where I support other entrepreneurs streamline and simplify the way they run their businesses. Business owners worldwide trust me to run their online business day-to-day and I just love the variety – no two days are the same!
