The Aloud Charity album is here!
Titled GEN Z, this album represents our current participants and is a reflection of their passion and dedication over the years. Diverse and digitally-minded, ‘Generation Z’ is the demographic cohort succeeding Millennials.
The music
The album features our three choirs: Only Boys Aloud, Only Kids Aloud and Merched Aloud Girls. Tracks range from West End hit You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen to more traditional Welsh songs such as Gwinllan. Find out more about the making of the album by watching this video below.
The artwork
We commissioned a local Welsh designer to create the cover and sleeve. Beth Morris is a creative artist who runs community workshops to share her passion for art and craft. A highly experienced artist and teacher, Beth works with children and adults of every age and ability to give them confidence with creativity.
The creation
The album required months of preparing, organising and rehearsing. After developing scores and backing tracks, our participants were ready to record their captivating voices in Gwersyll yr Urdd Glan-llyn, Gwersyll yr Urdd Caerdydd, Ty Cerdd and Venue Cymru.
The funding
As you may know, our supporters made the album possible. During November 2021 and January 2022 we set an ambitious goal of raising £10,000 through a Crowdfunding campaign so that the album could happen. The support was overwhelmingly positive, with donations coming from all over the world. Over the 10 weeks we in fact exceeded our target and raised an incredible £14,410 through online and offline donations. We remain grateful for the support we received – without this GEN Z wouldn’t be here today.
Aloud’s Creative Director, Craig Yates said:
“I am incredibly proud of the new Aloud Album. It’s been a real labour of love over the last year but the finished product sounds incredible and looks great. It’s been a huge personal project for me. It’s the first album I have produced, chosen the repertoire for and I did some of the vocal arrangements. A huge thank you to those who supported us in the making of the album through our successful crowdfunder campaign. We couldn’t have done it without you. I really hope you enjoy the album as much as I do.”
What an incredible way to celebrate our 10th year as a charity. We hope you enjoy listening to the album as much as we enjoyed recording it. You can buy the album here.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated towards the campaign. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to provide unique opportunities to young people in Wales. Diolch.
