Can you introduce yourself and your role with The Aloud Charity?
Hi, my name’s Steffan Hughes and I’ve been a choir leader at The Aloud Charity for about three years.
What inspired you to take this role?
I would say the most rewarding thing about being a choir leader is working with young people. Every choir session is completely different; there are young people of all different backgrounds and different walks of life, and they bring completely different and unique personalities to the room.
It’s such a joy to watch them develop new skills and to watch their confidence grow too – that’s the best thing about being a Choir Leader.
Do you have a favourite event that you have been on with the choir?
My favourite Aloud Charity memory was at the Arts & Business Cymru awards in Cardiff at the Wales Millennium Centre, and Only Boys Aloud performed that evening. I remember being so proud of what they’d achieved. They filled the stage to start with, but they weren’t even phased either by the industry professionals and the celebrities in the room – they just gave it their all and managed to achieve an incredible atmosphere in the room. By the end of the performance, everybody was on their feet cheering!
