Only Kids Aloud
Only Kids Aloud began in 2010 with a series of school based workshops aimed at giving teachers the confidence to make singing a regular classroom activity for 8-13 year old boys and girls. Successful pilot projects in Brecon and Cardiff led to residencies in the Stiwt Theatre, Rhosllanerchrugog and a project on behalf of the National Eisteddfod of Wales with schools from across the Vale of Glamorgan. This work developed further with Land of Song, a collaboration with Wales Millennium Centre and the Roald Dahl Estate, that saw the creation of a brand new online resource for teachers and culminated with 4,500 schoolchildren joining in song at a series of celebratory concerts.
In addition to its school based work, Only Kids Aloud also runs a pan-Wales Chorus for boys and girls aged 9-11. Initially a joint project with Wales Millennium Centre the Chorus have performed with Bryn Terfel in Cape Town, sung Mahler with Gergiev in St Petersburg and appeared in the CBeebies’ pantomime. After a short hiatus the Chorus will relaunch in 2018 thanks to the generous support of the Hodge Foundation.
